Talking Turkey

With all of the rain we have experienced this summer,
I had feared that we would lose our grape harvest.
At one point, it seemed as if the grapes were rotting before they ripened.

This weekend I happened to notice this....

We have grapes to harvest!

Plump, purple grapes are just waiting to be plucked and turned into jam.

Meanwhile, in the orchard there are enough apples for a few
delicious apple pies...

Yummmm...I can taste that apple pie right now!
I'll take mine in a bowl with milk and sugar.
How about you...how do you like your apple pie?
With ice cream?

One of this week's chores is getting the honey extractor clean in preparation for
Thursday's honey harvest.
It seems that Tom, one of our bourbon red turkeys, found the extractor and spent
a good deal of time admiring the other turkey that he saw reflected on the metallic sides.
It went something like this...
(meanwhile, Chuck decided it best to not get involved)

  1. nice try tom..i was all for you busting that turkey out of there! i guess you won't be joining turkey mensa anytime soon!

  2. Persistent . . . .better check, might be out there this morning!

Happy grape harvest and apple pie baking! I will stop over!

  3. Silly Tom!!! About the apple pie. I love mine with a slice of cheddar cheese. I grew up in the land of Tillamook Cheese so it was only natural we always had cheese on the table. Ice cream is a close second but then again it has to be Tillamook Ice Cream. Do you see a pattern here??? Ha-HA!!!

  4. Maybe you should put a tarp over that "other turkey" so Tom can get some rest. What a fun video.

I love love apple pie but it has to be really good pie, then either plain or with vanilla ice cream.

  5. Happy Harvest. I enjoyed that video. Ha,ha so did my hubby looking and laughing.

See what you have started. Now my hubby is a fan.

  6. Yea for the grapes! We had them here, but as soon as they were ripe the possums devoured them in one night!!
    : (
Look at all that canning you have done!! Yum!!!
I really must do that next year!
    xo Kris

  7. Tom is hilarious and I've seen them do that around our vehicles too. Now, I must go check and see if we'll have any grapes to harvest. It's been so wet I figured they would rot.
    Love your posts!

  8. He's like the cardinals in the spring banging their beaks on windows and side view mirrors...Funny
Apple pie with ice cream please...
You must have learned how to eat yours from your Dad...The grapes look wonderful..

  9. actually he wasnt that silly as he went around to see if it was hiding there!!!!
