Sunshine And Showers

Our unbelievable weather continues...highs in the 70's, sunny blue skies.... weird!
The farm was a whirlwind of excitement this weekend...
lots of comings and goings...

Saturday's highlight was a family cookout.

Andy, our BBQ chef (my son) smoked salmon filets....mmm mmm good!
Amanda made bruschetta orzo salad.
I baked a cake... lemon coconut.... might be our favorite yet.

(I can post the recipe if you want.)

Tyler spent the day with us.
Saturday morning's rain gave us a chance to play trains...
Love these Brio trains...leftover from 27 years ago when Andy was a toddler.

By noon, the sun came out and we picked (and ate) blueberries...

Fed Ritz crackers to the goats...

Tyler got a kick out of watching how far the goats stick out their tongues for a Ritz!

We packed about as much as we could into one day!

Sunday the farm served as the venue for a baby shower.

Anna, who often helps us out around the farm, is due in October...
a baby girl, Rebecca Lynn... named for Dr. Becky.

In my spare time this weekend,
I refinished this old desk...

and set up this vignette on our back porch.
The slate chalkboard came out of a Lancaster County one room schoolhouse.

We eat our meals out on our screened in porch all summer long,
so this little area will provide a little eye-appeal for our mealtimes.

We packed a lot into our weekend...and had a blast.
How about you... did you do any fun things this past weekend?a

PS:  I have something on my mind...
a little chicken insanity...
that I need to discuss with you.
Hopefully I will have a chance to write down my thoughts this week.

Another great weekend. Tyler always looks so happy. I bet Tyler eats a Ritz serves a Ritz eats a Ritz serves a Ritz......

Tyler will have such amazing memories of your place when he's grown. Such a great grandma, who will sit on the floor with trains. :)

I can imagine little kiddos happy as little larks making a visit to your farm, with Ritz crackers in hand . . .
Tyler is so big already! How did that happen?

I love salmon. When I lived in Santa Cruz, we would buy it fresh off the boats in the harbor. And I also love lemon coconut cake so I'd appreciate the recipe.

We also had a nice weekend but not quite so packed with activity as yours.

I love weekends when you can cram as much family fun as possible. I have one granddaughter over Sat. night. We didn't have a whole lot of time but she sure is a great help with water flowers! Sunday I hiked Silver Falls St. Park. Oh my, what beauty mother nature has and to think it is in my own backyard. Okay, about 20 miles away. I might have to come off summer break for a post. Hugs!!

So many things to comment on here. First, yea for the great weather!!! We are having such a mild summer, but we will get those triple digits soon! Loved seeing your grandson with the trains. I saved my son's wooden set too, and the grandkids play with it all the time!!
Loved seeing the photos of your grandson feeding the animals the Ritz. So cute. Shower looked lovely.
And the desk!!! LOVE it!!!
Have a great week!!

my weekend was,not quite as busy as yours, but it was enjoyable...we went to grassroots book sale, where you can fill a shoping bag of books, movies or cd,s out of their warehouse, then went to breakfast with my hubby, a little shopping at the dollar store and home..It felt so good to come back to the quiet of the farm, after the hustle, bustle of the city.....

Sounds like a very good weekend! We went to the beach. It was a little chilly, but we still got sunburned! We have a box full of Brio trains too. I'm sure we will be getting them out for the grandson soon.

Good thing that cake is on the other side of this computer screen or I would be face down in it eating as much as I could and hoping no one was around to notice. LOL IT LOOKS SOOOOO GOOD!!!

I love your blog! You have really inspired me. I really do want to have chickens but have no idea where to start. Is there a good book? Do you have suggestions? I do not have a coop, and really would like to build one, but I do not know where to start there either. If you have time, I'm all ears! Rebekah
