I sit here at the computer trying to find the right words.
For once, they just won't come.
You see, 9 years ago, we opened our hearts to this strange little girl.
She was the smallest and shyest of her litter mates.
Sadie, so tiny and so fluffy...so sweet and loving.
From very young, she was quirky...
nothing came easy.
Nothing, except for the love of her family.
Her family was her small circle of trust and she watched over us
as if it were what she was born to do.
Whenever we would return to the house from farm chores,
Sadie would be there to greet us...
no matter what the weather.
(the colder the better!)
This beautiful soul, with all of her quirkiness,
found a big place in our hearts.
Sadly, yesterday, she left this world...
and left our hearts broken...
in oh, so many pieces.
She lived beyond her life expectancy (Bernese Mtn. dogs have a very short lifespan.)
She lived a full life up until the very last couple of hours.
Some massive neurologic event happened suddenly and with it her
heart gave out.
She did not suffer, and passed with all of us holding her and loving her.
We are ever so thankful to Dr. Becky for her help in making Sadie's passing a peaceful one.
The years of tender memories will help to put our broken hearts together again.
For now, though, through tears we say...
"Goodbye Sadie Pie... you will always be in our hearts!"

And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
For this -- the last battle -- can't be won.
You will be sad I understand,
But don't let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.
We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn't want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.
Take me to where to my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me till the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don't grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do;
We've been so close -- we two -- these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.
but each of your kind notes have made me weep.
Thank you for your kindness, your caring, your love.
It helps.
Sadie loved her life with you . . . you gave her "the best."
My caring . . .
Love, Lynne

Big hugs from all of us at the 7MSN.
My heart goes out to you and yor family. Sadie had a wonderful life with a family that loved her what more could a pup ask for. I just don't get it..why do they have to leave us. Each one of our charges is so much part of US..it just hurts SO much. I know no matter how much time passes she will always be with yu. Thank you for sharing her with us all on your blog. It is like saying good bye to one of our own.
Thinking of you...Hugs..Judi B.

Sounds a lot like when my Sweet Bella past away two years ago. We had taken her in cause she seemed tired. Ended up she had a tumor in her spleen and we had to put her to sleep that day. Very shocking. Thus, I know how it feels to lose a loved one with no notice.
At least she had a grand life with you and from the photos seemed very happy.

It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them, and every new dog who comes into my life gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are. - Anonymous
