RePete

It's often said that cats have nine lives.
It's never said that horses have the same.

No, horses are fragile creatures.
They break easily.
Sometimes they are physically broken, and sometimes emotionally.

Bringing a broken horse back to life is not an easy task.
It requires great love and great patience...
and then a little more love and a whole lot more patience.

If you are new to my blog, you will want to read this earlier post.
It tells the story of Becky's rescued horse Pete.
Pete came to live on the farm this past March.
He was broken.... both physically and emotionally.
Pete had had at least 2 lives before Becky rescued him...
(Becky (Dr. Becky) is Hubbs sister and an equine vet who shares our farm.)

Pete's first life took him into the world of horse racing.

His second life was a sad, sad, neglected life that brought him to the brink of death.

This post is about his third life... the life that Becky has given him...
a life full of love and kindness and patience.

Becky is now working Pete under saddle.
It has been a slow process...
working on Pete's confidence,
and conquering his fears.

The work has paid off....
Look how proud Pete is now!
Pete's injuries have healed.
It appears he just likes to "hang loose"!

Wow, I just broke down when I read that and saw Pete. Why are people so terrible to the helpless? Thank you for being the kind ones. Terri
Bev, I have been reading your blog for a long time...maybe two years. This is the most heartwarming story I've ever read about your farm. Having rescued 2 horses this year and helped with others from New Holland, Pete is one of the worst cases of neglect...and he's come back with a whole new life with the most loving people. Hurray!!!

I loved seeing Pete again. He looks fantastic. Thanks for the update. It's devastating to see the condition he was in when he arrived. I started following your blog when I stumbled upon the story of Pete and how you had to bandage him. At first, I thought your blog was an animal rescue blog... well, it kind of is! Thanks again for the good news to start my day.

Oh MY..misty eyes over this post!! I remember you saying you over heard the people talking about the HOLIDAY they were going on..and no money for a vet to look after poor Pete.
It just makes my day knowing Pete has a life now. Just praying there are more people out there willing to help an animal in trouble. It is so worth the journey.
He LOOKS AMAZING!! Way to go Becky!!

God bless Becky, God bless Pete! I love a good, heartwarming rescue story, and this is one of the best. It is so good to know, that for every cold and rotten animal abuser out there, there is someone like Becky, willing to take on the difficult task of creating a new life for the victim. Thanks Becky!!!

I have been following Pete's rehab, and he has made an amazing recovery. Certainly would not have happened without the love and care of his new owners. He looks proud and regal, wearing his new health like a badge!!!
Hooray for Pete!!!
I have just caught up on your blog after having been away. Darn, I didn't win the apron!!!
Lucky gal who did...she will love it.
Hope you are well.

Bev this warms my soul and also brought happy tears to my eyes. Thanks so much for sharing this. Pete is beautiful.
Pete's hipbones just shook my world--how can a human do such damage to a gentle creature? I used to show my own two horses when I was a kid--my dad would have sold them in a minute if I had treated them badly. He told me when he brought my first horse home to pet her as if she were a butterfly--with gentleness. I still tear up when I think of how she would "kiss" me when I snapped my fingers! Bless Becky!

It's great that he was rescued, can't he live out his life without being ridden, and people asking more of him?
