Help Wanted

Wanted: Gardeners, Planters, Weeders
to replace present work force.
Salary - none.
Benefits - many!
Must be willing to start immediately.

If you thought Phyllis looked bad yesterday,
you should see what I look like today!
Here is the best part of me....
the rest, I just cannot show you.

I am in the middle of a major overhaul of the strawberry patch.
Half of the patch is still buried beneath its winter blanket of straw
and many many weeds.

While the other half is weeded and transplanted...
ready for the warmth of the sun.

Tiny plants like this will grow and flower over the next two months
and then burst forth with fruit in June.

I have been working like a "dog", on hands and knees.

As for my help, and why I am placing the above ad...
Well, here they are....

sleeping on the job.

Hickory is the only one enthusiastic about the work,
but at 16, her pace is a bit slow.

So I ask you...
where does the phrase "working like a dog" come from?
Because, if you ask me....
it's more like napping!

Speaking of "hard at work"....

Here's Hubbs on the backhoe, cleaning up some shale that washed into the pond.
I'd say he's in his element...
a big boy with a big toy!

Comments

Our gardens are so mushy from all the rain it's hard to get anything done at all! Ugh. I have flats of strawberries to be planted but the ground is too soggy. :-(

That is a huge strawberry patch! I've got like 8 plants in mine.

"Honey, can you help me with the strawberries?"

"What? I can't hear you over the tractor."
Good Morning Bev!
Well if I lived close by I'd come over and help you. Even though my strawberry patch looks terrible at the moment and is already blooming...it's more fun to help someone else than it is to work in your own yard sometimes. Good luck with your available help...looks like you've got your work cut out for you ;) Your hubby looks like he's having fun...yes big boy toys is right! I hope you have a wonderful day...don't work too hard and enjoy your weekend..

I would love to come right over! I promise no nappy in the fresh spring grass. That's right, either a 5 hour flight or few days drive, Shucky Darn!
Have a great day! hugs!!

If the strawberry patch was elevated, I'd be happy to help..I'm afraid that my "on my hands and knees days " are over..I hope hubs didn't have any dangerous incidents with the backhoe..I'm surprised he got it away from you....

LOL! My dog works like yours do, it would seem! However, he is quite good at catching voles in the grass- when he feels like it.
My hubby would LOVE a toy like yours has. Ooo, a backhoe.
Now if it would only stop raining here so I can get into my garden without sinking...

What a lot of work! I have to do a major overhaul in my strawberry bed this year as well. Of course, I have to wait for some real spring weather.
