Wooooo Hoooooo and Ritz, Too!!

Why is Jack smiling?

Well, he just cannot help himself!

(And no, it's not because I have Ritz crackers!)

(Which, I do...but we'll talk about that later)

He's so proud of Forrest and Sissy.

They've been discovered!

Their "Vogue" shoot was featured on "Nanny Goats in Panties"
( a wildly popular and quite humorous blog written by Margaret in Sacramento).
These two photogenic camera hogs were featured in her
"Goat Thing of the Day" column yesterday.

(You can even subscribe to her blog on Kindle!)

Nanny Goat in Panties

OK, so, I don't buy Ritz crackers for our household.

We've sworn off of processed foods like that as much as possible.

You know...

trans fats,

white flour,
too much sodium,

high fructose corn syrup...

all those sins we try to avoid.

We do, however, buy Ritz by the case for our goats.
They love them.

I mean LOVE them.

I must admit, so do I!

What's a girl to do.....

There they are....

everyday....

just lying there tempting me

on top of the goat feed.
OK, one for you.....

And two for me!

Don't tell Hubbs that I'm eating Ritz out of the goat feed bin!!

Ah, that salty, buttery flavor....you KNOW what I mean!!!

Jack's not the only one smiling now!

What's next for your goats? Maybe the runway, modeling the latest fashions... :-)

Hi Bev,
You know you are a gifted writer! You really bring your animals to life and make us laugh. Goats have strange eyes - it seems to me - is there a reason why? Do they see differently than us? Can they see colors?
I don't know anything about goats. I did get to "milk" one once at a county fair when I was a teenager. For a city girl that was an experience.

There is all sorts of speculation as to why goats eyes are slit. I don't know that any research has ever been done to prove any of these theories. First of all, though, they have fewer cones than rods in their eyes...similar to horses. It is thought that they see very faded color...but, just a theory. Having more rods gives them better night vision. It is also speculated that having horizontal slit pupils gives them better peripheral vision...beneficial when you are potential prey. Another thought is that horizontal pupils allows for better vertical sight....beneficial for animals that live in mountainous, rocky, cliff-like areas....hmmmmm, I don't know about that. Whatever the reasons, their eyes are haunting for sure!

Another theory is that because they are grazers and out in the sun, horizontal slits allows them to narrow their pupil, keeping out the brightness of the sun, while still having a wide field of vision to detect predators........

Any volunteers for a little goat research project?

OK....from Dr. Becky (who checked her veterinary opthalmology book)....the last reason that I mentioned...being able to constrict the pupil down to just a slit....keeping bright sunlight to a minimum without losing peripheral sight seems to be the best answer.

BTW...research has shown that horses see muted colors....except for the color blue, which they seem to see brightly.
I'm so jealous of your goats! I want them, but know I'm no where near ready for them....one thing at a time! I've eaten m&m's I've found under the couch after months and months, so I know I'd be eatin' those Ritz!
I love Jack's smiling face!

And I can't believe you're eating goat food now.

:D

And thanks for the shout out - that's so awesome of you!

Ritz are wonderful crackers, not just for everyday goat snacks. Add a couple of peanuts and they can decorate any goats table for a special occasion. Stale crackers are a chickens favorite snack too. You are not along sistah. This old goat likes them too. ;)

P.S. I think goats have the most beautiful eyes.
