Chicken Mystery

Every morning, and pretty near all day long, you can hear Handsome Hank crowing his beautiful fully developed "Cock a Doodle Dooooooo". But, lately, there has been another sound coming from the fancy chicken pen. It sounds as though another rooster may be trying out his voice. I was under the impression that I only had the rooster that I had ordered (the rest of the chickens were supposed to be hens.) However, one of my "surprise" chickens may end up being a rooster, also. The suspect is on of the chickens that I call Phyllis. I have five of these white crested chickens. One of them, however is standing much taller and has darker red markings around her/his beak. There is a chance that this particular chicken will be renamed Phillip!

Here are one of the typical "Phyllis" chickens.

And here is Amazon chicken....maybe soon to be called Phillip.

I have two of these feather footed chickens...named Freda
This silver crested Polish is named Izzy....her sister Amelia Airheart took to wing and became prey to an Owl, I suspect.

This golden crested Polish has a sister...and they are both named Ziggy.
This is Babs. She comes to my feet to be picked up and makes the sweetest cooing sound.

And of course.....Esmerelda. And to her left in the background is "Sticky" (the one who messed with the fly tape). There are actually 7 "Sticky" gals in this flock....and I am not sure what breed they are, but they look like a game bird type. They almost don't look like chickens.....

A few more weeks and these gals should begin laying. I can hardly wait to see what type of eggs we get.

I love your chickens!! We never had good luck with the special breeds here, so we stick with the traditional hens that can handle the cold and damp air we have so often. Our pen is not heated at all, either. Can't wait to see you one of these days.
Oh, how funny..yes, Phillip it is! I so love looking at all of your chickens...chickens are so much fun to watch..much better than TV!

I had my laugh for the day when I read about your two feather footed chickens named Freda. That's my mom's name and same spelling. Made my day!

those hens that you speak of sitting upon the gate...those are silver phoenix. You'll notice the extra long pheasant like tail for the females. The male's tail can grow up to nearly 10 ft if cared for propery.
