A "Best Friends" Kind of Morning

Yesterday morning I was treated to the most spectacular sunrise. As I headed out to the goats and chickens this was the view across the pasture....The sky looked as though it had been painted on a canvas....the most intense colors. I wondered if the animals appreciated the splendor. The goats seemed unimpressed and kept eating their breakfast. I, on the other hand, was enthralled with the sight.
Once it was fully light out, I put the Littles in the dry lot and started my daily poop patrol. While I scooped manure, the Littles chased each other. Meanwhile, TomTom and Bobby played a raucous game of tag through the dry lot fence. Ella looked on....a scowl on her face as usual. It seems that the two little boy kitties are quite enamored with each other and spend their days getting into all kinds of mischief....including sitting on the top of the chicken coop (both trying to figure out how to get inside and terrorize the hens). This is what I call "Double Trouble"!!!

Goodmorning Bev,Beautiful sunrise. The cats are adorable.I think they want a chicken sandwhich.Have your hens started laying eggs yet?I can't beleive your male cats get along so well,My outside male is so mean.He beats my inside male cat up,If I let him outside with me to go up to the goats and chicken pen.
Its very cool here this morning and calling for frost tonight low 30's.Do you keep your goats,& chickens inside and locked up at night with heat?We have to because of the coyotes. We have 3 heat lamps and there stall is full of straw the lights are secure to the roof.I worry though because our pygmy goats are so small, that it will be too cool for them. There winter coats have come in already.Ours are so friendly and want to be held soon as we go up there.Have a wonderful day.Jennifer

Yes, it is pretty amazing how these boys get along. I think they are kindred spirits! It has been chilly here at night...but not as cold as where you are, Jenn. I will eventually have a heat lamp inside each of the chicken houses. As for the goats....they seem to weather the winter just fine in their wooly coats. Their houses are packed with hay, so they can snuggle in and eat their beds!!

Bev,Thank you for the reply. We have been using the heat lamp for a couple weeks now.Our Sultan chicks which are about 2 months now do not like the cold at all.At about 3 pm they start peeping and huddling and we know they are cold and ready to go in there own house. Now for the past 3 days they have stayed with the heat lamp
24/7.
We were letting ours free range during the day but also had dogs come in and kill about 20,plus all 6 new ducks. Our hens have not been laying well since then. They did well the past couple days so I guess they are feeling secure again. On the weekend when we are home they are let out and they know to go back in at 5 pm for there night feeding. Then we lock them up for the night because of all the wild critters around here.Have a great evening,Jennifer

Oh Jenn, I am so sorry about the dog attack....our chickens have still not gone back to their usual laying. I think there is definitely post traumatic stress disorder in chickens! My new chicks are a little over a month old and are just now getting their full feathers...so they, too, have had a heat lamp 24/7. I am planning on continuing that in their house until Spring. The other hen houses will get heat lamps within the next couple of weeks. Our electric bill goes up in the winter....mostly due to all the heating we use for the critters!!!!!

Sunrise-

¶ And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:
15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.
16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.
17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,
18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.
VERY GOOD INDEED!
